Did you know that studies have found that emotional intelligence contributes to occupational success as much as the IQ does, if not more?

And, we still ignore this aspect!

So, what is ‘Emotional Intelligence,' you ask?

Well, according to Psychologists, “Emotional intelligence is the ability to identify and manage one’s own emotions and those of others.” And it includes three distinct skills, namely:

  • The ability to harness emotions and apply them to tasks like thinking and problem solving

  • Emotional awareness

  •  The ability to manage emotions (This includes cheering up or calming down other people as well as regulating your own emotions).

Many experts now believe that a person’s emotional intelligence quotient (EQ) may be more important than their IQ and is certainly a better predictor of success, quality of relationships, and overall happiness.

The Importance of EQ in Your Child’s Life

Emotional intelligence has an impact on almost every part of your child’s life. Here are four areas it can affect.

1) Your child’s performance in school and at work

Emotional intelligence can help your child navigate through the complexities of society in school and later, in the workplace.
This will help them motivate and lead others, and excel in their academic career.

2) Your child’s physical health

Not being able to manage stress levels can cause serious health issues---in childhood and later in life.
Uncontrolled stress can suppress the immune system, raise blood pressure, increase contribute to infertility, the risk of heart attack and stroke, and speed up the aging process!

By just improving your child’s emotional intelligence they can learn how to relieve stress and lead a healthy life.

3) Your child's mental health

Uncontrolled stress may also have a huge impact on your child’s mental health and make them vulnerable to depression and anxiety.

Not being able to to understand and manage his or her emotions will also make your child more susceptible to mood swings. It may also prevent them from forming strong relationships, leading to a feeling of loneliness and isolation.

4) Your child’s relationships and friendships

When your child is able to understand his or her emotions and knows how to control them, they’ll be able to express how they feel and also understand how others are feeling.

This will allow them to communicate more effectively and have stronger relationships, both at school and at home.

So, yes, Emotional Intelligence is extremely important for your child to develop and have a happier and healthier life in the future.
