Raising a Super Healthy and Happy Kid | USA
We all know that children can be picky eaters; they would rather have chips than a bowl of fruit salad, and to be honest, we used to do the same as kids. But just because they don’t like something, doesn’t mean you can’t trick them into eating it (even though the word “tricking” shouldn’t be used in this context).
Making your kids eat healthy food can be tricky, you are sometimes too busy to prepare a full meal, and in today’s era, I can’t blame you. I know what it’s like to be too busy to eat healthily, but our children should be educated to become “food smart” adults, who will take care of their bodies and minds alike.
One way to achieve this is by teaching your kids about the importance of a healthy diet; you don’t need to be a doctor or a dietitian to do this, you just need to pay attention to what you and your children are eating on a daily basis. This will help you see what you’re doing wrong, and how you can make it better.
And since I’m all about tips, and I care about your children’s wellbeing, here is a list of easy tips that will help you make your children eat healthier food.
Don’t take “junk food” off the table
If you restrict your children from eating sweet, fat, or what you might deem “unhealthy” food, your kids might develop some sort of eating disorder later in life. From anorexia to bulimia, eating disorder are disorders that can threaten your children's lives. I have read about many cases involving children who literally lock themselves in the closet and binge on foods they are denied. #LookItUp
Instead of indefinitely banning some sort of food, teach your children about healthy food, about the importance of eating fruits and vegetables, but also of not depriving themselves if they’re craving some chocolate for example. Soon enough, they will start to regard eating a lot of healthy food as their normal diet and eating junk food as an exception they can allow for themselves from time to time.
Breakfast is important
And your children should know that. It seems easy to skip breakfast because they’re late for school, to grab a toast on the run or just some cookies, but as many researchers already proved, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You should all have breakfast together, and don’t make it just cereal and juice or milk. Breakfast should contain all the important nutrients, so make sure to have something of everything: dairy, fruits, oatmeal, cereals, eggs, you choose what you put on your morning table, just make sure it’s healthy!
And don’t forget to pack your house with healthy food
When you children are home and get hungry, they will be looking for a snack. Of course, if you’re keeping chips, cookies, ice-cream, and other kinds of unhealthy food in your kitchen, that’s what they will eat. So trade this kind of food for something healthier: fresh fruits, nuts, dry fruits etc… When your children get hungry, they will eat an apple or a banana as a snack, and that’s one hundred times better than a chocolate bar, don’t you agree?
